MANIC STREET PREACHERS – Show Me The Wonder (2013)

“Show Me the Wonder” is a song by the Welsh alternative rock band Manic Street Preachers. Released as the lead single from their 2013 album, Rewind the Film, the song marks a stylistic departure from the band’s usual anthemic rock sound, showcasing a softer, more reflective tone.

The song’s lyrics explore themes of nostalgia, longing, and the search for meaning and beauty in a complex world. It conveys a sense of yearning for simplicity and wonder, contrasting with the often intense and politically charged lyrics the Manics are known for. Instead, “Show Me the Wonder” offers a more introspective look at life’s fleeting moments of beauty.

Musically, the song has a warm, almost soulful sound, heavily featuring brass instruments like the trumpet, which gives it a slightly vintage feel. This sound aligns with the overall tone of Rewind the Film, which has a more acoustic and stripped-back approach compared to the band’s earlier, more aggressive work.

The music video, set in a working-class pub, complements the song’s nostalgic theme, capturing a sense of community and togetherness in a small-town setting. The imagery reflects the traditional, everyday side of British life, emphasizing the song’s themes of finding beauty in the ordinary.

This is no threat Just an invitation A sense of belonging A sense of inspiration

Is heaven a place Where nothing ever happens Is it too much to ask To disbelieve in everything

Show me the wonder I have seen the birthplace of the universe Show me the wonder I have seen their records move in reverse

If you’re exiled By all the cruel tongues Then show me the wonder The wonder of your love

A tapping pain of madness Running through their veins We may write in English But our truth lays in Wales

Show me the wonder I have seen the birthplace of the universe Show me the wonder I have seen their records move in reverse

Praying for the silence When we look in to a mirror Stained so patient We measure the nostalgia

Is heaven a place Where nothing ever happens Is it too much to ask To disbelieve in everything

Show me the wonder I have seen the birthplace of the universe Show me the wonder I have seen their records move in reverse

Show me the wonder Show me the wonder I have seen their records move in reverse
