“IWU is the right choice for me because it is such a close knit community, and the IWU Women’s soccer team truly is a family,” said Minney. “When I first stepped on campus I felt like I was at home.”

During her high school career, Minney became an All- Section performer during her sophomore and senior seasons in addition to All-WPIAL as a senior. On the club circuit playing for Beadling Soccer Club, she became a State Cup Champion in 2017 and 2018, a Great Lakes Conference Champion in 2019, a Midwest Regional Finalist in 2019, and a National League Champion in 2020.

“Beadling has helped me grow into the player I am today,” she said about her experience playing for one of the premiere soccer clubs in the region.

Her favorite memories from being on the pitch include scoring against South Fayette in her freshman year at home, scoring the game winning goal off a header against undefeated West Allegheny during her sophomore year, and playing goalie against West Allegheny during her senior season.

Playing the game she loves has come at a price as she battled some head injuries during her career, including splitting her head open twice in a nine day time period. Perhaps through her own injuries, she discovered that getting people back to feeling better was something she wanted to do for a career. The WPIAL standout intends to major in nursing and minor in Spanish at IWU.

Still, playing the game is something that’s brought her so much joy. Over her college career, it’s sure to bring more friendships and memories that will last a lifetime. Best of luck as you get ready to become a Wildcat, Mackenzie! Thank you for the chance to share about your commitment ⚽️👩🏽‍⚕️
