Prior to her finding passion in the three sports she participated in during high school, she was a talented gymnast for many years in her youth, something that has helped her go on to have an incredible pole-vaulting career.

Originally starting track and field in middle school as a sprinter, she eventually found an event that paired both speed on the runway with amazing upper body strength and flexibility. The results have been significant as she has set numerous records not just at the high school level, but also now at Ole’ Miss.

High school included helping the Little Lions to four-straight District 6 titles while also setting the school record in pole vault at 13’-1.5’’.She placed fourth at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships, was a four-time New Balance Outdoor Nationals Qualifier, participated in the Millrose Games twice, placing sixth and seventh respectfully, was the 2019 Kevin Dare Invitational Champion in pole-vault, and was the 2019 Susquehanna HS Indoor Classic Champion in pole-vault. Additionally, she played two years of high school volleyball and was named All-State before deciding to focus on her future in track and field.

After a standout high school career, she wanted to compete in the Southeastern Conference, the most competitive in the nation for women’s pole-vault. “Competing in this region of the country would push me to new heights (literally),” said Reed about why she wanted to become an SEC athlete.

The opportunity has paid off as Reed has become an SEC Academic Honor Roll for both semesters of the 2019-20 school year, an M-Club Student Athlete of the Month in 2020 a USTFCCCA All-Academic Honoree in 2020 and 2021, the No. 2 All-Time Ole Miss Women’s Pole Vault Outdoors (4.28) which she made in 2021, an NCAA East Regional and National Qualifier/Competitor in 2021, and most recently set the Indoor School Record in pole-vault at 4.31.

Going to Ole’ Miss has certainly been a wise decision, and she said this about what stood about becoming a Rebel over joining other programs.

“Ole’ Miss was the best fit for me for a multitude of reasons. After my official visits, the family feel of the team, fit of coaching style, as well as the resources available to support my success on both the academic and athletic sides were unmatched. Additionally, Ole’ Miss offered the undergraduate and graduate program I was looking for which made it the ideal choice for me in the long run.”

The academic opportunities in nutrition and dietetics were the perfect fit as in the future, she hopes to attend graduate school at Ole’ Miss to complete a degree in Health Sciences. For now, she’s focused on completing semester six of her nutrition and dietetics degree. After completing her education, she intends to become a registered dietitian and to pass the RD Registered Dietitian examination. Currently, she’s still deciding if she would like to work in a clinical setting or if she would prefer to stick around in an athletics setting to work with high level athletes.

To date, her favorite memories from athletics have involved seeing all of her hard work come to fruition from various performances over the years as well as the teammates and friendships she has made from athletics in her life.

“I really enjoy my teammates and the memories we made from each trip–whether they’re good or bad–and that we can look back to appreciate and laugh at all the experiences we’ve shared together.”

With indoor season still in full tilt and outdoor season quickly approaching, it should continue to be a great year for the Centre County product Lyndsey Reed. Best of luck to you and your team as you continue the 2022 season, Lyndsey! Thank you for opportunity to highlight your time in athletics to date 💪🏻🧑‍⚕️
