Lone Star BBQ and Mercantile– Santee, South Carolina

If you’re driving through South Carolina near Lake Marion on a Sunday (when Sweatman’s isn’t open), try the Lone Star. What. charming place, a rambling old unpainted wood song;meeration.   It has some not-so-great barbecue largely redeemed by a tasty sauce, but it’s really a buffet with lots of other stuff, including some delicious lima beans and fried chicken, beautiful macaroni and cheese, and an outstanding sweet potato casserole. They also have a separate dessert table with a revolving selection–they keep bringing out different pies and cakes, so the selection changes regularly during the course of a meal.
