Please Wait. Loading. Please Do Not Turn Off Your Device……Your Save Data Has Been Corrupted.Please turn off the device and try again. What the hell is going on in there? Why are you making so much noise? Stop beeping at me and give me my disk back. I paid for it! Why won’t this stupid rotary emoticon stop spinning and just load? Don’t do that, remember what happened when you aggravated me last time? Don’t even think it! I’m warning you. No, NO! Remember when gaming was a serene pursuit. One of nourishing benevolence and contemplative serenity that could be savoured without fear of automated interference? Now when I see the antiquated intimation adorning a subverted portion of the screen, attempting to partially attract my attention with such an informal congress akin to someone whispering an enigmatic concession from across the room, I have to question whether gaming has truly progressed. Sure we covet the cathartic textures, but appear adequately contented with attenuated intermissions. Why has this become a legislated routine? As a kid I had to remove the hefty cartridge for the corrugated sleeve, place the unspecified game into the bulbous console with adequate persuasion as the cartridge had to be pushed down into the device, pick up the controller adhered to retentive wire and play. No loading screen, no regulated temperature gauge, just a rudimentary, almost manual system with complimentary monotone hum emanating from the device and comparatively less adversity. An old console felt disciplined, reliant, with an embedded resilience that seems to have regressed in subsequent years. Sure they lack the visual fidelity of modernised correlations, but at least when I press the eject button the appliance would graciously comply with my benign demands and passively reciprocate them without turbulent beeping, shrieking and using unnecessary intimidation by corrupting my save files!
