Let’s Make Soap!
Hi friends! This project is fun, easy, and affordable. What’s more, is that you can create it in batches for holiday gifts. these soaps are luxurious and moisturizing and if you know how to make a cup-o-noodles in your microwave you have all the skills you need!

What spurred this project was my mother wanting some “soaps like I used to make” and my daughter Lila also wanting to make soap again. I also had some dried lavender that a friend had picked me this summer that I wanted to use. So I ordered some soap base and colorant and gathered tools from around my kitchen and we got to work. Watch the video to see how we made it and to avoid some of the pitfalls we faced.
Supplies (affiliate links used)
5lb Soap base (USA made by Primal Elements, we used the cocoa butter formula which is opaque but they have other formulas as well, this will work with any base)
Glass measuring cup that can be microwaved
Soap colorant (optional)
Stuff to add to your soap if desired: I used ground oatmeal and lavender.
Plastic wrap (I got my large roll with the glide cutter from Amazon)
Spray bottle filled with rubbing alcohol (this removes bubbles and helps the layers of soap adhere
Additional notes:
This filled 2 standard bread loaf pans with a little leftover.
This project made 16 bars.
If you want to make more you can buy a 10lb block of soap base, the price per ounce usually goes down the more you buy. Here is a link to the Primal Elements store if you want to see what other sizes are available.
If you choose to add fragrance, do so after melting the soap base so you don’t risk changing the fragrance or stinking up your house.
If you use a glass loaf pan for your soap mold then line it with plastic wrap before pouring in your soap base so it will be easier to remove. You might even want to do that if you use a metal pan! Alternatively, you can use a cardboard milk/juice/broth container that you cut the top off and wash as a mold.

I hope you enjoyed this fun mother-daughter DIY and til next time happy crafting!
