Lesson 3: The Specificity of Each Situation – Understanding the Task Requirements
Another thing I learnt is every position has specific requirements. You cannot just copy and paste what you have done previously in other analyst positions. So many factors affect the analyses done including what the coach wants analysed, the equipment available, time constraints etc. For example, StatEasy is used as part of the volleyball analysis system for Super 8s Statistics and Cardiff Celts because it is a great piece of software (see link). However, I used Dartfish TeamPro for Team South Wales because the video format given to me by the coach did not work in StatEasy. Hand notation was used for the All Nations Volleyball tournament because it was easier and a link to video was not needed (see link for further explanation). LongoMatch was used during my weeklong training camp in Germany with Wales School team (see link) because a quick turnaround was needed and I would frequently get this message:

Obviously the software system that is used affects how the data is taken out and put into the Excel sheet. How the data is displayed in the dashboard is also affected by what data is actually collected (simple versus complex statistics) and for what purpose (individual team versus general public display). Having a varied experience will definitely help in the decision-making process.
