Lesson 1: Success = Passion + Experience + Hard Work
I knew from the outset that success is a combination of passion (“like doing”), practical experience in the field (“the doing”) and hard work (“keep doing”). My time in Cardiff has reinforced my philosophy. Here are three quotes that describes this, respectively:
“.” – Confucius
This is clearly the starting point in any career. You have to be passionate about what you are doing because then you are putting in the hours effortlessly. It is not a chore. It took me a while to find my ideal career choice, as described in My Journey So Far page (see link).
“.” – Confucius
I knew to do the job of a performance analyst you have to do the job of the performance analyst. Learning in the classrooms cannot describe what happens in the field (for example see link). This was why I wanted to do the Work Experience module and was even declared in my UWIC personal statement (see link).
“” – Thomas A. Edison
It was not just about doing the job but about putting as much effort into it. What you put into it is what you get out of it. So this was why I undertook eight analyst positions last season. Each position, however small, has taught me something valuable. This will add to my experience and it will hopefully translate into success. Success for me is getting a regular paid analyst job (see link).
