LES PETITS CHANTEURS D’ASNIÈRES – On Est Venu Te Dire | Hommage pour Serge Gainsbourg (1992)

Les Petits Chanteurs d’Asnières pay hommage to Serge Gainsbourg (1992): 30 French children impersonate chain-smoking, binge-drinking singer.

This tribute was both endearing and shocking, since it depicted children symbolically engaging in Gainsbourg’s notorious vices like smoking and drinking. The performance did attract criticism due to its portrayal of children partaking in adult behaviors associated with Gainsbourg, which many found inappropriate. However, others saw it as a testament to the impact Gainsbourg had on French culture, celebrating his legacy in an unconventional way. The homage remains a notable example of how Gainsbourg’s complex persona continued to stir mixed reactions even posthumously.

Cringeworthy tribute to singer Serge Gainsbourg by a chorus of kids (Petits Chanteurs d’Asnières) dressed up as him, on what I guess was his birthday. Note the tears in his eyes, from realising he is in the seventh Circle of Kitsch Hell with no way out. Abandon hope… [From TV5 in France , Recorded circa 2006-2007]
