Knives Out (2019)

Director: Rian Johnson
Starring: Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Jamie Lee Curtis, Ana de Armas, Toni Collette, Don Johnson
A detective investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.
‘Knives Out’ is a murder mystery unlike any other film of the genre I’ve seen. What makes it so different, is that they actually show how the murder happened, and who did it.
Or so you think… ‘Knives Out’ has so many surprises and twists in store for the viewer. It is a captivating film from beginning to end. The film revolves around a wealthy writer, Harlan Thrombey (Christopher Plummer) who is murdered on his 85th birthday. Young Ana de Armas steals the show as Marta Cabrera, Harlan’s nurse. She was absolutely fantastic. Daniel Craig stars as a somewhat mysterious detective who interrogates the dysfunctional family. As evidence surface and plots are uncovered, it appears everyone had a motive.
Just when you think you have it figured out, though, the film dishes up more information throwing you completely off course. The film plays like an Agatha Christie type murder mystery, yet it is indeed very different. It boasts a good script, an excellent cast, good cinematography, and I absolutely loved the setting in the mansion and the attention to detail. There’s a great climax too.
‘Knives Out’ is a brilliant comedy drama I’ll enjoy watching again and again, even after the reveal. This is so different and unique that it stands out from the crowd. I loved it!!
‘Knives Out’ was a huge critical and commercial success. It earned $311.4 million on a $40 million budget. It received 164 award nominations (including an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay), winning 52 – including Best Editing, Best Thriller Film, Outstanding Achievement in Casting, Best Original Screenplay, Best Production Design, Best Comedy…
Would I watch it again? Yes.
