KING ERIC’S ALBUM OF THE WEEK: ILA R DA SANDMAN’S “JUGGERNAUT”
Another portion of this blog we wanted to kickstart is the “King Eric Album of the week” This is where I’m gonna be reviewing newer albums and giving multi breakdowns behind the nescience behind them. The album I choose for this month is “Ila R Da Sandman’s “Juggarnaut”. Sandman has been putting out several dope projects.”The First Strike,Strike 2 Da Hunga,Da SilvaBakk of Rap series“, , OTG with Sage Mckenze, and Goliath.
He’s also one of the few that I’ve heard that consistently mixed hip hop lingo with Wrestling references, Whereas many rappers used it as a trend, It was a way of life for guys such as Ila R Da Sandman, Madison Jay, R8ed R and others. This album Juggernaut delves into a different melodic vison but its still paying true to the hardcore hip hop sound.

What I like about “Juggernaut” is that its a totally different project from his previous. The Intro alone gave a Three 6 Mafia/Down South Vibe with the up tempo flow with the Three 6 like haunting production. It follows up perfectly with the album title “Juggernaut” which follows a similar vibe but also shows that he’s ready to enter the game like the character “Juggernaut“.
But don’t let the shift of styles confuse you. Ila R Da Sandman is born BX, Represents BX and will always stand on BX. You get another collaboration with fellow BX emcee KONY Brooks on BXHeavyweights Part 2. Another one of my favorites on the album is “BX Strong Style” which is a ode to the classic NY Hip Hop sound and a homage to Karate flicks because it was a big part of NYC culture in the 90s. Especially in the Bronx and Shaolin.
I also like when he gets in-depth about the struggles and hardships of being broke on the track “Dreams” which is very relatable considering today’s climate. Samu’s Revenge is another goodie which if you really know video games, You would know that its sampling the classic 80s game “Metroid”. It also features standout performances b Pest The Menace and The I.C.ON.
Hollywood (which samples Hulk Hogan’s heel turn and NWO run) shows that he’s always one of the trendsetters of mixing Rap and wrestling and he proves that he’s not using it for content but really a true fan of the sport and represents as a true catalyst for the mixture of hip hop and the sport.
Overall Juggernaut delivers in many different elements. It delivers in creativity, It delivers in delivery, versatility, and pacing. If you’re a fan of hip hop… Juggernaut is definitely worth checking out!
