Killer Party (1986)

Director: William Fruet
Starring: Martin Hewitt, Ralph Seymour, Elaine Wilkes
In order to join a sorority, three friends go to a hazing party in an old house where a sadistic bloodthirsty demonic spirit is lying in wait.
If you’re a fan of 80’s slashers, it might be best to avoid ‘Killer Party’. Although they might have had the right ideas (or not), the execution wasn’t that great. And if you’re watching it expecting a slasher, you’ll have to wait for the final act before there’s any slashing.
Jennifer, Phoebe and Vivia are new pledges at the sorority. The goat party – or hell night – is held at a spooky, abandoned house. There’s so much potential here but – spoiler!! – nothing happens, apart from practical jokes; mostly by Vivia. In fact, so much time is taken up by practical jokes that I became bored halfway through. The film also takes a very long time to get direction.
There are almost no kills for the entire movie, and then all at once during the final act, one after the other. There’s also the discovery of bodies cliché by one of the characters, and even this felt cliched for the sake of cliché, if you know what I mean… Oh, and then the film suddenly becomes a possession movie and we find our protagonists killing off each other. Oh, yawn already, yawn; this was just badly done. The film in general is way too slow – and uninteresting – for a slasher.
‘Killer Party’ feels like a mix of ‘The Initiation’, ‘April Fools’ Day’, and a few other more popular 80’s horrors – all of which were better. Simply put, you won’t miss anything by not watching ‘Killer Party’.
Would I watch it again? Obviously not.
