Keep On Moving!

There’s a mocking trend among gaming fascists that convenience gaming such as the mobile persuasion, is, well rubbish. I myself have been a rigid aspirant to the banality of cellular entertainment, often inciting acerbic contempt for its bespoke chastity and at the micro transactions that are as invasive as they are ubiquitous. Any “game” that your mum is more proficient at than yourself, should never be considered a game under any consideration. Yet I can’t stop playing them. These vapid applications have all the artistic variation as an episode of CSI and the esoteric complexity of Fisher-Price baby blocks, with a shape-sorting lid! But damn it all if simplicity isn’t the most restorative way to alleviate anxiety or distraction. They are likely to be the primary exponent of my prospective arthritic immobilization. They can be applied with verve, loaded and played all with the merest of gestural appraisal and within the confines of a bowel movement. And its odd how these inert pertinence’s have become overt infatuations in my every day activities. When I get up in the morning I get changed, prepare my breakfast (with the adding milk to cereal) and accumulate the revenue generated by the earnest citizens of Springfield in “Tapped Out”. During the day I make frequent, often perfunctory inspections to my “Tiny Tower”, assessing whether a floor requires immediate expansion or if swifter construction on another floor would be more beneficial. And in the evening I’m consumed with the adroit desire to beat my High score on “Subway Surfers”.

"Come on guys; I need this Pharmacy restocked pronto!"

The overtures of perennial emancipation from the stresses and strains of life are now more commonly derived from the motility of handheld gaming rather than consoles, and it’s not surprising considering just how accessibly rapid it is to become obsessed with these games, simply because of the abundant versatility of mobile devices. And that’s the primary incentive here; obsession. There’s an adaptive subtlety between immersion and addiction that the rapacious publishers of mobile games depend upon. A consumer isn’t neurotically playing Candy Crush because their curious as to what motivates these sugary capsules to commit mass, diabetic genocide against their vibrant compatriots. No, they are continuing to play because they came within a “sherbet” of clearing a level that has resisted them for over a month. The good news now is that due to the simplicity in erecting mobile content for mass distribution, fresh applications are sometimes curated by esoteric talent that possess humble ambition, a marketable commodity that is only now becoming an established utility in its console equivalent (though let’s hope for fewer Flappy Birds). Of course there are still many negative connotations associated with cellular interactivity. Many “games” pertain an inertia functionality, meaning you not so much as playing a game as you are monitoring its progression. Whether that’s auditing your provisional habitations in some populated city or carefully harvesting some vegetables on a simulated plantation, there’s a ruthless pacification of game-play often galvanised by invasive annotations that beseech you with piteous acrimony to purchase upgrades that help your infantile crops grow quicker! There’s an inherent dearth of originality too, that is only exacerbated by the accented saturation of imitating more financially lucrative properties (Candy Crush, Pet Rescue, Bejeweled, generic colour matching simulator. That last ones not very good.)

In an industry that flourishes in creative sterility, with the overt duplication of various popular games and then attempting to prosecute the games “you’ve copied” (I won’t mention any names, so let’s call it Saga Crush Candy), finding quality games to supplement your mobile phone requires prescient luck. Your almost certainly delete more applications than you keep and many of those you’ll forget you have, but damn it all if you don’t find an inert gem huddled meekly in the innocuous corner of your respective digital, media store. Furthermore you should…..*bing!* Ooh, my next floor in my tower is finished. Oh well cool! It’s an Archery Range! Excuse me…..

Let me know about your mobile addictions. Cheers.
