Kaitlyn Jagielski did not have just one high school season of softball taken from her, but two. With a COVID-19 season as a sophomore and a torn ACL suffered last month, Jagielski has handled tough times in stride.

It’s not for once second made her question her dream of becoming a high school athletic director, softball coach, and multi-purpose athletic facilities business owner in Allegheny County. She hopes to one day give back to young athletes the way coaches have done for her.

These goals are coming in several years down the line as she still has several seasons left as an athlete herself. A current senior at West Allegheny, Jagielski will be heading to Delaware for college to join the Goldey-Beacom College softball program.

An email from Coach Juli Greep initiated her interest in checking out what the school had to offer. She eventually made the six hour drive to Wilmington, Delaware and immediately felt welcomed and appreciated by the team and supportive campus.

Some accolades she’s earned in her four years at West Allegheny include being a captain of the softball team, a captain of the first ever girls’ rugby team, scoring the first ever try in West Allegheny girls’ rugby history, and being a four-year member of the JROTC and reaching the rank of Second Lieutenant.

Her favorite memories from softball are the team meals, making funny videos, and overall hanging out with her teammates both in high school and club softball.

Though it was a tough end to her high school softball career, she will never forget how inclusive her teammates were this past season even if she didn’t not play the role she once hoped she would as s senior.

“My teammates always remembered that I was still part of the team,” she said. I always plan to continue to support West Allegheny softball and the future successes of the program.”

Best of luck in the rest of senior year and in your transition to Goldey-Beacom, Kaitlyn! Thank you for the chance to highlight your commitment and overall success on and off the field 🥎
