Just How Sovereign Is God?

The Westminster Confession of Faith rightfully claims, “God, from all eternity, did, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely, and unchangeably ordain whatever comes to pass.”

In short, God is sovereign.

How do we know that? Because the Bible says so.

God rules over all things (I Chron 29:11-12; Ps 10:16; 24:8; 29:10; 48:2).

God controls all things (Job 42:2; Ps 115:3; 135:6; Dan 4:35).

Earthly rulers are under God’s control (Prov 21:1; Rev 19:16).

Events on earth are under God’s control (Isa 55:11; Dan 2; 7).

Angels are under God’s control (I Kings 22; Job 1:6; 2:1; Col 1:15-16; Rev 4:8).

Demons are under God’s control (Eph 1:21; Phil 2:10).

Satan is under God’s control (Job 1:6, 10; 2:1; Rev 20:2).

Our decision making is under God’s control (John 1:13; Acts 2:23; Rom 8:29-30; Eph 1:11).
