Jesus Built My Hotrod: the story of Ministry┃Documentary | RawMusicTV
Al Jourgensen is an American musician best known as the founder, frontman, and primary creative force behind the industrial metal band Ministry. Born on October 9, 1958, in Havana, Cuba, he moved to the United States as a child and grew up in Chicago. He’s widely regarded as a pioneer of industrial music, blending aggressive electronic sounds with heavy metal, punk, and noise.
Ministry started as a synthpop band in the early 1980s. The group evolved under Jourgensen’s leadership into a much heavier and darker project, especially with albums like The Land of Rape and Honey (1988), The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste (1989), and Psalm 69 (1992).
Side Projects: Jourgensen has been involved in numerous side projects, including Revolting Cocks, Lard, 1000 Homo DJs, and Surgical Meth Machine, collaborating with artists like Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails), and members of Killing Joke and Fear Factory.
Known for his confrontational attitude, extreme soundscapes, political lyrics (especially anti-Bush in the 2000s), and innovative production techniques. Often called “Uncle Al,” Jourgensen is known for his eccentric appearance, including dreadlocks, tattoos, and a cowboy-goth aesthetic.
