It’s snacktime! (Part 1 of 3)

Even if making a quick (yes, it *is* possible!) trip into Costco, I rarely leave without strolling through the “snack section” (i.e., the rows with the candy and the nuts) on my way out. I have found some of my favorite snacks there (Product Review: Kirkland Cashew Clusters; Product Review: Hoody’s Essentials Orchard Trail Mix). In addition, the one upside to items being discontinued (It’s Gone? Discontinued Products) is that there are frequently new products to try.

I came across this list of the best snacks to try at Costco (note that not all of them are found in the “snack section”–some are in the bakery, some in the refrigerated section, etc.)

I will break it up into three posts with comments on some of them. Please chime in if you have tried any of them!

1. Kirkland Signature organic roasted seaweed

I have never had seaweed but it makes three appearances in different forms on this list of 21 snacks!

2. Organic Aussie bites

I have not tried these but they come highly recommended from at least one family member.

3. Made in Nature figgy pops

I saw these for the first time during a relatively recent trip and was intrigued (I had never heard of them but have since seen smaller–of course!–packages in grocery stores). I enjoy dried fruit, coconut, and granola and was pleasantly surprised by how much I like Lara Bars (will be discussed in a later post in this series) despite not finding the concept of a “date bar” especially appealing. I decided against trying them because I often find dried fruit too sweet and/or too easy to eat too much of and then not feel great. Still curious though…

4. Wholly Guacamole minis

I love avocados. For the past 8+ years, I have eaten a whole avocado 4-5 times/wees (on salads, in wraps, on toast, with hummus, or just plain).  I have perfected the art of “staggering” the ripeness of the avocados when I buy for multiple days at the same time and adjusting for the speed of ripening depending on the weather. Yet, I have never tried guacamole. It would certainly be convenient for those times when I cannot get a fresh acocado (speaking of which, although not nearly as tasty–but definitely convenient– several years ago I tried packaged/shelf-stable avocado halves they were not as tasty but good to have on hand…I have not seen them in years though).

Howver, even if I did like guacamole, it is unlikely that I would buy these for the same (admittedly ridiculous) reason I would not buy the next snack on the list…

5. Kirkland Signature organic hummus

I definitely like hummus and it has become one of my favorite dinners when I combine it with the veggie burgers (Slightly) different veggie burgers now offered). However, I do not like individual serving packs of a lot of foods.

I’m sure it is obvious by now thst I do not have a problem (although perhaps I should!) acknowledging my quirks. One of my “things” is that I find certain types of containers unappealing (e.g., the idea of yogurt or applesauce in a tube is just gross to me!).

6. Pressed by KIND bars

I have seen many KIND products over the years but only recently tried any of them (KIND bars which will be fiscussed later in this series).  I really like the two kinds (no pun intended) I tried and am interested in trying some of their other products. However, although I do enjoy each separately, I don’t often like the combination of fruit and chocolate (I know, I know..) But, as was mentioned above with respect to Figgy Pops and will be discussed later in this series, I do like Lara Bar products which combine dates and (often) chocolate so perhaps these would be okay…

7. Wonderful Halos

I imagine that most people have tred these small oranges. I have always larger naval oranges but I know that most people love these and and they are definitely easy to transport (side note: does anyone else remember trying to peel the entire rind in one string?)

Have you tried any of these first seven snacks from the list? Thoughts?
