Is Performance Analysis Killing the “Soul” of Sport?
Performance analysis in sport is a relatively new area of research. As we continue to answer the question of what makes athletes or teams successful in sport, what happens when we get to the point where we can accurately predict sports results with high probability? If you couple that with the premise that sport is exciting because its inherent nature of chance (that anything can happen), would we care about sports? Would it kill the “soul” of sport? I do hope it won’t be the case and that chance, luck, an extra special piece of skill will always play a part that makes sport unpredictable and exciting.
