inTIMacy!

inTIMacy!
Really I draw inspiration from my surroundings, the experience that I go through, and, I draw from what other people go through.”
Twenty eight year-old, Dallas, TX. native, Tim Minor, aka, “inTIMacy!” has one of the most rhythmic, and lyrically inclined cadences in the game right now. Sounds like a contradiction, I know but it works. Being able to hit the strong lyrical undertones that Kendrick Lamar and Big Sean would, while also having the ability to hit those softer notes that Drake is known for, inTIMacy! is for sure a ray of talent just waiting to explode. Keep your eyes peeled on this one.
A Texas native, inTIMacy! pursued his education in therapy, which of course makes sense if you listen closely to the words in his songs, which, of course is hard to do when the beats jam by themselves. It’s hard not to get up and dance. inTIMacy! graduated with a degree in Psychology from the University of North Texas with a concentration in sociology, so it’s safe to say, he understands people and relationships. He may be new talent, but he’s already made a name locally for himself in the underground SoundCloud community with the debut EP entitled, First Class this year.

I know that you’re from Texas, but if you could live anywhere, where would you live?
That’s pretty hard, but if I could live anywhere, it would probably be somewhere crazy like Canada (Montreal specifically) , Japan, or Atlanta. The music scene is cray over there right now, from what I hear.
Can you remember the first time you wrote a song or started rapping and singing?
The first time I wrote a song? I was a child. I was like, eleven or twelve, just writing lyrics down. I vividly remember leaving a page on my desk around that age and catching my dad walking by my room and reading the lyrics, which immensely embarrassed me. Safe to say, the lyrics were pretty lame back then. I’d gotten my inspiration from B2k on that particular page. It was like, “Baby girl this, and baby girl that”. The funny thing is I never really let it be known that I wrote or even sang/rapped. Some people knew, but only because I told the,. not because they’d heard me. I’m an artist and you know what they say about artists: We’re sensitive about our sh!t.
Where do you draw inspiration from when you write songs and what’s your favorite part about the process?
Really, I draw inspiration from things that I have personally been through. I’ve never understood how or why people write about things that they themselves haven’t gone through. That to me leaves a lack of authenticity. That’s why you don’t hear me talking about shooting up clubs and stuff; it’s not me.
So clearly your real name is Tim, so where does inTIMacy! come from?
Oddly enough, most of my music is not all intimate. I used to try my hardest to stray from softer serenating music, because before people knew I wrote songs, I knew that if they knew me, they’d automatically assume that I was on the Drake-like wave, which is fair, because underneath this hard exterior, I am a “loverboy”. Who isn’t though? I think we (as men) have to put on this mask of “I don’t care about anything” in this hard world, but I think underneath it all, we all, men and women (myself included) just want intimacy, love, acceptance, and understanding, despite the masks we wear. Oh, and I mean, “Tim” is in the name inTIMacy!, so I couldn’t pass up that opportunity!
From your recent EP, First Class, “Player’s Creed” and “TBM” are literally two of my favorite songs. What are yours and which was the most fun to write?
My favorite would have to be “Gin & Juice” and “inTIMacy! I’d been letting a couple of close friends hear my music and they were like, “Could you do a softer song? Do something cute to challenge yourself.” At the time my music (the unreleased music that is), was pretty vulgar, and still is honestly, but it wasn’t sweet at all. It was very much Tupac-like, but that’s where I was internally, and the external result was definitely a mirrored image of that, I thank them to this day for those challenging pieces of advice.
And, do we have anymore music videos coming from that particular album?
Yes! I’ve been jonesing to create some visuals from the EP. Everyone is requesting PTP since it’s definitely a stripper anthem. That was the most fun song that I’ve written, so I’m not opposed to that at all, just you wait.
Who are your biggest writing influences?
My biggest writing influences? Hmmm… I would say Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Big Sean, SABA, Smino, Curren$y, and UGK. I may be from Dallas, but the Houston and Cali scene has HEAVILY influenced the sound that I usually gravitate towards.
Wait, with good taste like this, how old are you?
I’m 28. Had to think about that for a second, because 26 almost instinctively came out of my mouth.
And who would you most like to collaborate with in the future?
…I don’t know to be honest. It’s because I still have to focus on building my own sound, so I can’t be thinking about who I kind of want to collab, but for a softer sound, I’d love to work with Jhene Aiko and Kehlani. To match the vibe I’m on though, I’d love to work with J. Cole or Kendrick. I know their verses would be amazing, so it would literally force me to up my game!
For our readers who have yet to hear your music, explain your sound in two words:
Honest
Lyrical
Are you a superhero fan? If so, Marvel or DC?
Marvel Movies for sure, and DC tv shows. Well…actually, Marvel shows are pretty amazing on Disney Plus too, so Marvel!
What’s next for you? All of the fans want to know. Any plans of new singles, EP’s?
Honestly, I pump out at least five-seven songs a week, so all of the above are in the works. I know that sounds unbelievable, but I assure you, I’m sure I annoy the hell out of my friends and family sending them each and every song I make, even if it’s 3 am!
