In Which We Briefly Become “Tre’vellanche”

July 14 isn’t only Bastille Day, it’s now also Non-Binary Peoples Day, and so today we use the occasion to celebrate Tre’vell Anderson, founder of Slayzhon, podcaster, former Editor-At-Large for Xtra magazine and Director of Culture and Entertainment at Out magazine, and author of the book We See Each Other: A Black, Trans Journey Through TV and Film, which came out in May, and which not coincidentally mentions US!

One hand washes the other, eh? As though that weren’t enough, they have a new one coming out in September: Historically Black Phrases: From ‘I Ain’t One Of Your Lil’ Friends’ to ‘Who All Gon’ Be There?’

Truth to tell, we’re all non-binary — we’re just all mixed to different recipes, and some are more forthright and celebratory about it. I cheer their bravery today, as well as their example, and if that surprises you, I remind you that at the moment you’re interacting with a creature who calls himself “Trav S.D.”
