Every actor on IMDb has a page that gives all kinds of information, including the top four movies they are “known for.” And just like everything on IMDb, the four titles are selected by way of an algorithm. The algorithm take such things into consideration as:
The type of title (theatrical films are weighted more than TV shows or other media
Role, like whether or not the actor had top billing, etc.
Popularity, such as the amount of views, what people search most for this actor, etc.
And the actor is listed anywhere, it will show under their name what they are known for, which is the very first movie on their list of four. Most of the time it seems to get it wrong. A good example is seeing something like: Robert De Niro, . And yes, that’s what they have listed for him.
The following are the top 4 “known for” movies for some of the most well known Hollywood movie stars (titles listed in chronological order). If you highlight the movies below their name you will see a star beside the one that is their #1.
Most of the time it’s not what I would’ve guessed. The ones that shocked me the most were numbers 3, 5, 9, 10, and 14.
