Illinois’ coming governor election…in song!
If you live in Illinois, you know the problem of November. If you don’t live in Illinois, well…the governor election here is a pure question of “Which candidate is less detestable?” You don’t get that often in politics–most of the time, there’s a candidate with something redeeming. Sigh.
Less bad. It leaves me voting for Rauner.
The other guy (Pritzker) wants to tax drivers for every mile they drive, wants to raise taxes so college becomes free for everyone, a whole lot of taxes…completely missing the fact that Illinois is swimming in debt and shouldn’t be spending more. If you dig a hole, the first step to getting out of it is…*STOP DIGGING*!
In any event, it made me think of a Beatles song from their 1966 album Revolver, “Taxman,” a commentary on the oppressive British taxes of that era. So…why not change it a bit?
Rauner is bad, undeniably, But Pritzker’s worse times three Watch how it works and you will see Downstate gets screwed, Chicago let be. ‘Cause they’re the taxmen! Yeah, the taxmen.
Let me tell you how J.B. will be One buck for you, nineteen for he ‘Cause J.B.’s the taxman, yeah, he’s the taxman
We’ll spend some more and that’s not all Be thankful we don’t take it all ‘Cause I’m Mike’s axman, yeah I’m a hatchet man
You’ll pay by the mile if you drive a car, If you own a farm, I’ll tax your beef We’ll take so much you can’t get far, Even dead, you won’t get relief.
Don’t ask him what he wants it for Madigan told him we need to pay some more ‘Cause he’s the taxman! Yeah, he’s the taxman!
Now my advice for those who can Move elsewhere by plane or van ‘Cause he’s the taxman, yeah, he’s the taxman…
(Not my best work, but….)
