Director: Alex Proyas

Starring: Will Smith, Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood

In 2035, a technophobic cop investigates a crime that may have been perpetrated by a robot, which leads to a larger threat to humanity.

From ‘Fresh Prince’ to one of the greatest action heroes – well done Will Smith! And he is looking mighty fine too!

‘I, Robot’ is loaded with CGI visuals. Some are good, some not so much. Some scenes looked more like a video game than a movie! Nevertheless, in general I liked the look and feel of this futuristic action thriller.

In the near future, robots are programmed to do our every day chores. Each robot is programmed with three laws they have to obey. Will Smith stars as homicide detective Del Spooner, who is called upon by the genius Dr Alfred Lanning – who designed the robots – after his death. Investigating Lanning’s apparent suicide, Spooner becomes increasingly more suspicious of the robots – believing one of them killed Dr Lanning. However, he needs proof. Spooner hates robots. I felt Spooner’s back story wasn’t developed enough. I wanted to know more about this character. It was refreshing to see a film of this genre without a love interest. Instead, it concentrated entirely on the issue at hand, which I rather enjoyed.

There’s more than meets the eye, off course, and his investigation takes us on an exciting thrill ride with lots of action and interesting twists. The film has a really exciting finale!

‘I, Robot’ earned $353 million on a $120 million budget. It received an Oscar nomination for Best Achievement in Visual Effects.

Would I watch it again? Yes.
