Director: Anders Walter

Starring: Madison Wolfe, Zoe Saldana, Imogen Poots

Barbara Thorson struggles through life by escaping into a fantasy life of magic and monsters.

Anyone who has seen ‘A Monster Calls’ will no doubt compare the two films. ‘A Monster Calls’, however was far more moving – and more superior on every level.

From the nerd being bullied at school to the monster’s appearance to the sick mother, you can’t deny the similarities between the films. ‘I Kill Giants’ is not what I expected, not the film the trailer tried to sell me, and not the film the poster represents. This is one hell of a boring drama that (almost) goes nowhere. Not by a fraction of an inch does it have the same effect ‘A Monster Calls’ has.

The heroin, Barbara, is an annoying little bitch. I can’t believe none of the teachers could put her in her place. With her issues and attitude she clearly belongs in a special school. The psychologist, Mrs Molle (Zoe Saldanha) is an incredibly weak character, whom I didn’t like at all. In fact, I honestly didn’t like any of the characters. The film’s ‘bitch’, Taylor (Rory Jackson) was by far the most interesting character.

There were very little action and monsters and visual effects in this tedious drama. ‘I Kill Giants’ will appeal to young girls. Or it might work as a bedtime story (it will put you to sleep in a flash!). A film about two teenage girls and their fantasies is hardly my idea of an interesting movie. Yawn. I’d rather watch ‘A Monster Calls’ a hundred times over than giving this a second viewing…

Would I watch it again? Hell, no!
