Humpday (2009)

Director: Lynn Shelton
Starring: Mark Duplass, Joshua Leonard, Alycia Delmore
Two guys take their bromance to another level when they participate in an art film project.
In the early morning hours, Andrew arrives at Ben’s house, and crashes for the night. The next day, Andrew invites Ben to artistic friends of his.
His friends are open-minded and free-spirited, embracing art in every form. At a party where the friends discuss and explore their ideas for the Hump Film Festival, an unexpected dare sees Andrew and Ben agreeing to make a porn movie as an art project – and this is to include anal sex between these two friends.
The rest of the film is the build-up to the materialization of their art project, and how it affects them as straight men, and Ben as a married man. The film features very natural performances and the fact the visual style looks a lot like found footage (though its not), made the film incredibly realistic.
No offense, but women really are weird. I totally get why some straight men complain about being married. Men and women are different for a reason, and I completely understand why so many men are gay. (Interestingly, though, the film is directed by a woman!).
Although the premise revolves around sex, this is a stylish film that is never crude or obscene. On the contrary, it is funny, engaging and really exciting. And I won’t spoil the ending for you…
‘Humpday’ received 13 award nominations, winning 6 including Best Actor and Best Director.
Would I watch it again? Yes.
