How to prevent default record type selection when using a URL button to create a record?

Hi there! 😀 Hope you well and safe!

Today’s article is about an effective admin trick!

So let’s just start by understanding what is the issue. Say, on standard Account object there are two record types, namely; RT_1 and RT_2, where RT_1 is the default record type. Now you have a custom URL button on a another object to directly create an Account. So the URL would look something like this:

/lightning/o/Account/new

But as the user clicks on the button, no record type selection screen is displayed, and the system by default chooses the RT_1(since this is the default) as the record type.

Problem

But what we really need for the users is the ability to choose the record type instead of having the default record type getting selected.

The solution is pretty for this one. So in order to show the record type selection screen/prompt, all you have to do is append ‘?useRecordTypeCheck=1’ to URL of the custom button. So the final URL should look like this:

/lightning/o/Account/new?useRecordTypeCheck=1

Demo Time!

Hope you find this useful! See you in the next one! ✌
