How to Paint Watercolor on Canvas and Display without Glass!

Hi friends! Today, I have a fun project! We are going to paint with watercolor on a specially treated watercolor canvas. This canvas is made by Phoenix and can be purchased on the Phoenix website, Amazon, or Ocean State Job Lot. It’s affordable, and it allows you to display your watercolor painting without a frame or glass—just paint the edges.

Watercolor is delicate, so you will need to protect your painting when you are done. At the end of the video, I will show you how I wax the watercolor painting so it is ready to display. Enjoy the video!

• Phoenix Watercolor Canvas 11″x14″

• Assorted watercolor brushes: I used my set from CraftAmo and soft scrubbers by Royal & Langnickle

• Gouache (optional)

• To seal & protect the canvas you will need: Cold Wax Medium (Dorlands Wax)

• A soft, lint-free cloth

Another alternative is to use watercolor ground to prep a canvas you already have. I prefer the Phoenix watercolor canvasses to the watercolor ground because it is smoother but you could probably sand the watercolor ground prepped surface for a smoother feel.
