1/2 of the elephant is now packed
Well, subsequent to my last two posts of moving the equivalent of the weight of an average sized African elephant, in cookbooks, I have been working at break-neck pace to pack all of the more than 4,600 cookbooks(plus a lot of non-cookbooks). Suffice it to say that there are not enough cardboard boxes in all of Albuquerque to accomplish this task and my husband and I have probably put several hundred miles on his vehicle, roaming from store to store, begging, even pleading for boxes. We have been temporarily blacklisted from one store for taking more than our fair share, at least until after the Holidays.
At any rate, approximately 1/2of the elephant now resides in a multitude of boxes, scattered around our house and it has become increasingly risky to get up in the middle of night for a drink of water or to answer a call of nature, without taking a flashlight to wend one’s way around the ever-growing mountains of boxes. Our two cats have suddenly assumed the characteristics of mountain goats, scaling ever higher craggy cliffs of boxes and reaching the tops of furniture they never even glimpsed previously.
Come January 9th, the rest of the elephant will be safely packed and ready for the movers (hopefully). I read somewhere that moving was Number 5 of 10 most stressful events and I fully believe that to be a truism. To all of those minimalists out there, who have but a dozen books and trade them in and replace them with a new set, once they are read, I have a new respect for you. No elephants to worry about!
