Greenville, SC – dUMB Film announces the release of their latest music video, “WAYS”, created by award winning director, Gunner Willis, and produced by MJ Slide and Zach Robinson. “WAYS” is the brainchild of soulful vocalist and Anderson University Grad; Janise Robinson, whose stage name is Niecy Blues. Robinson and Willis have long desired to collaborate with one another since their days at Anderson and when Robinson approached Willis with the track, “WAYS”, they knew this was their moment to craft something beautiful together. From the start, Willis and Robinson knew they both wanted this video to be a “horror film” of sorts. Robinson stated that she wrote “WAYS” with various power dynamics in mind, specifically the power that Women possess. The song itself explores the push and pull of romantic relationships and the influence such bonds can have over each person involved. The music and lyrics are undeniably haunting and entrancing. With that tonality in mind, Willis and Slide set out to capture those feelings on camera.

I’ve always loved the horror films of the 70’s. A lot of these films focused on freaking you out through a feeling and a mood. Creating, for me, a film that is not only spooky but just dripping cool. And that’s what we tried to emulate here. Spooky, not scary. – Gunner Willis

Shot on location in Traveler’s Rest SC at local landmark, Northwest Grill, in February 2018, Willis and Slide assembled a team of Upstate film professionals, ranging from Director of Photography, Andrew Bradford, 1st Assistant Director, Amber Ensley, to Make-Up/ Hair artist, Latia Curtis.

The cast includes a slew of Carolinian residents, dancer and choreographer, Brian Justice, (actor/spoken word poet), D. Dove, (artist), John-Paul Newton, (photographer), Jon Stegenga, and actors Bruce Green and Sara Tolson.

Collaborating on my first music video was one of the best experiences I have had so far since pursuing music. The vision that Gunner had for the song immediately resonated with me. Gunner and I had been trying to collaborate on visuals for years and everything finally aligned, allowing for us to create what felt like magic on set. The teamwork and the amount of passion felt on set was something spiritual to me and I am beyond excited to be able to share it. – Niecy Blues
