Hellraiser 5: Inferno (2000)

Director: Scott Derrickson

Starring: Craig Sheffer, Nicholas Turturro, Doug Bradley

A shady police detective becomes embroiled in a strange world of murder, sadism and madness after being assigned a murder investigation against a madman known only as “The Engineer”.

So the film is essentially about the evil men do, and about your past coming back to haunt you. It is well set-up, but we only realize this during the twist ending. There are indeed a few rather silly ‘mistakes’. For instance, when the detective is handed a tape by a stranger, he watches it in the restaurant where anyone can see. Seriously?? Nice work, detective!  (yeah right!). Also, why would the Cenobites bother making a tape, or was this all in his mind too? Craig Sheffer tries his best to deliver, but the film seems to move in circles at times and his acting feels like deja vu. His character almost remains the same throughout – corrupt/vulnerable corrupt/vulnerable repeat.
