Heather Collins (Oxy) Steps Down

Whenever I do one of those statistics loss articles, I get a few people telling me who’s staying that I didn’t know. (Thank you!) This time around, I also received news that Heather Collins stepped down as the head coach at Occidental. The college has posted the position on their job board.

Coach Collins finished her 12th season at Oxy and 13th year. She ends with a 125-181 record (although the NCAA database doesn’t credit her with the 22 wins her first season). After starting her career with strong seasons in 2011 (making the NCAA Tournament), 2012 and 2013 and having a good season in 2017, the program has tended to struggle in the tough SCIAC. Coach Collins was an All-American at UC Santa Barbara and served as an assistant coach prior to coming to Oxy.

I wish Coach Collins the best in her next challenge!

As far as I know, there are now two head coaching jobs open in Region X. We have the one at Occidental and the one at Centenary. Ashley McDonough stepped down following the season at Centenary. Centenary is a tough place to coach and recruiting can be very challenging. Occidental is the more attractive position and it’s been proven that you can win there.
