Halle Berry 4Ever

Pulled this post/pictures together several months ago but just wasn’t feeling up to putting words with it. If you recall, we got our old gal Halle Berry (the cat, to clarify!) in 2016. She was already quite the old lady (somewhere between 10 and 12 years old, by the vet’s estimate) but we didn’t care, and truth be told it worked in our favor – nothing better than having a cat already well broken in, nice and calm and just here for the warm snuggles and people to sleep with at night. And she put up with two crazy boys like a true champ. Pete especially adored her so much, it’s been his lifelong dream to get a pet cat.

Unfortuantely: we took her for her usual annual appointment in January 2021 and received some bummer news: she now had a bad heart and advanced kidney dissease. Poor baby. They gave her 6 months to a year, maaaaaybe longer. Take her home, give her these meds, and just enjoy her.

And the good old gal made it to the long end of that estimation, all the way until April 2022. When she went she went quickly, stopped eating and hiding under the couch so we knew it was time. Even up to the end, she made it to her litter box every time with no accidents. Pete and I bundled her up in her favorite blanket and set out to the vet’s so she could go to sleep without pain (Pete said his final good-byes to his favorite girl in the car, he couldn’t bear to go in to the vet’s with me).

She was such a good girl, we were so lucky to have her in our lives even if it was for a short time. I hope she’s up in heaven getting lots of treats and pets from Muzzy.
