Director: Screaming Mad George, Steve Wang

Starring: Greg Joung Paik, Jimmie Walker, Peter Spellos

A young man discovers a mechanical device that merges with his own body, turning him into a cyborg superhero. When strange creatures start appearing, trying to take the device back, he begins to uncover a secret plot to genetically engineer terrifying monsters.

The main reason I was interested in seeing ‘Guyver’ was due to the involvement of the ‘Re-Animator’ team (Brian Yuzna, Screaming Mad George, David Gale, and especially Jeffrey Combs). However, I hardly have words to describe how bad this was!

Directors Screaming Mad George and Steve Wang are known for doing make-up and special effects, but are really, really bad as directors. ‘Guyver’ suffers from a very bad script, very bad acting, bad dialogue, bad directing, annoying cutting between scenes, bad lighting, bad sound effects, and yes, even bad make-up and costumes! This is as cheap and bad as a B-movie comes!

The narration in the opening was so laughable that I wanted to stop watching there and then (should have!). All attempts at humor failed miserably and was cringe worthy annoying. I was looking forward to seeing Jeffrey Combs, but he only gets about 5 minutes screen time – playing Dr East! (Yeah, as opposed to Dr (Herbert) West. ‘Re-Animator’ fans will get this).

How industry professionals concocted such a mess, is beyond me. For most part I was shaking my head in disbelief at how atrocious this is! ‘Guyver’ was almost unwatchable. In fact, it was!!!

Would I watch it again? Absolutely NOT!
