Griselda- WWCD Review

The Griselda movement which originally started in 2004 took on a life of its own in 2019. People whom were tired of the mumble rapping, the cliche trap beats and auto tune club bangers were acceptance of Griselda. The members Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, Benny Da Butcher and Daranger been laying down heavy ground work for years, Eminem took notice and signed the group in 2018.
The concerns were automatically heard prevalent. “Eminem is gonna change their sound” “This is gonna be another Slaughterhouse disaster,” “Eminem is gonna ruin this project” Well the good news for Eminem haters is Eminem is only featured on ONE track here and thats Bang which features Conway The Machine. The Track itself was a banger and Em himself showed that he can still rhyme with the best of them.
Other than that.. Eminem took a step back and let Griselda handle the entire project at 100 percent. In what looks like a passing of the torch. The Intro which is headed by Raekwon the Chef from the Wu Tang Clan sets the tone for what to expect out of this album.
The opening song Chef Dreds is the exact head banger that 90s pursuits and people whom were grown sick of the radio friendly sound of hip hop today would love to hear. You could feel the Wu Tang like energy flowing through with WSG’s opening verse along with Benny and Conway trading back and forth with hardcore bars.
Another concern that heads had about the album was whom was gonna be handling the production. Da-ranger was considered to be hit and miss but on here, He carries the weight for the entire project and he keeps the sound true to what made people embrace the Griselda movement.
The bangers continue throughout… If you’re expecting strip club albums and hook heavy laced music, You’re gonna be dissapointed. This album here is heavily catered to the hardcore east coast heads. When you hear songs such as Scotties, Dr Birds, Freddie’s Hot Spot and City on the Map. Its clear that these guys were on a mission to deliver and they accomplished it. Even 50 Cent got off the Power Set and back in the booth for City on the Map.
Overall this is possibly the project of the year. Griselda delivered and lived up to the hype of their Shady Records debut. 2019 was the year the Industry took notice of the movement. 2020 is looking even brought and I don’t see them slowing down anytime soon.
