Grilled Cuban Sandwiches

Cooked on a Panini Press. Can also use a Griddle

We’ve never had a Cuban Sandwich before today.  I’ve thought of making them, but never got around to it.  BIG mistake!  I made them today, and they were delicious!  Browned and crispy on the outside, and tender on the inside.  I cooked them on the Panini Press, but they would be just as good cooked on a flat griddle or a ridged Cast Iron pan.  Serve with a Salad or Soup and you’ll have a great hearty meal! Traditionally, Cuban Sandwiches are made with Pork and Ham, but many are now making them with Ham and Turkey.  Types of Bread/Rolls varies also, so use what you like. *

INGREDIENTS:

4 Rolls (I used small French-style Steak Rolls)

½ cup Mayo

¼ cup Dijon Mustard (or Honey Dijon or Bold and Spicy)

4-6 slices Swiss Cheese (or Provolone, Havarti

4 slices leftover Ham (or deli Ham)

4 slices leftover Turkey (or deli Turkey)

4 -8 slices Claussen sandwich-style Pickles

2 TBSP Butter, melted

Garlic Powder

PREPARATION:

Slice Rolls in half, lengthwise.  In a very small bowl, mix Mayo and Mustard.  Spread on the inside of the cut Rolls. (Tops and Bottoms)

Now you’re going to layer the Sandwich Ingredients.  Start with your Cheese.  Add Ham.  Add Turkey.  Add 1 or 2 Pickle Slices.  Top with another slice of Cheese.  Place top of Roll on last.  Brush Tops and Bottoms of Rolls with Butter.  Lightly sprinkle with Garlic Powder

Place assembled Sandwiches on preheated Panini Press.  Close the lid and cook until browned.  If using an open griddle, you’ll have to carefully flip the Sandwiches.

*Feel free to use Hard Rolls, Steak Rolls, Hawaiian Rolls, Sub Rolls, or even Bread.
