Griffin Called up to Greensboro
S. Samek
A lot of talk around the Pittsburgh Pirates minor league system has been the pitching. It’s centered a lot around top prospect Bubba Chandler and rightfully so.
However, another top prospect has been doing great this season. Konnor Griffin, the number two ranked Pirates prospect is off to a hot start to the season. So hot he’s getting called up a level.
He started at low-a Bradenton hitting .338 with nine home runs and 36 RBI in 50 games. His hot hitting has earned him a call-up to high-A Greensboro.
It’s impressive to see him hitting well and with some power. It seems like he’s moving pretty fast through the system hitting high-a at just 19. This comes after he was a 2024 draft pick. Hopefully this is just the start of things to come and not a peak. Yet it’s good to see some success for a highly rated Pirates hitting prospect.
Maybe Griffin could be the push Greensboro needs to win the first half. They are currently 1.5 games back of Brooklyn in the SAL North division. Guess we shall have to wait and see as he makes his debut.
