Duce Gourson of the Altoona Curve was named the Eastern League Player of the week for the week of 9/15/25.
Gourson hit .417 with a home run, four doubles, and five RBI during the Curve’s week-long series in Erie. This also included a career best four hit night during the Friday September 12th, 2025, game which Erie won 8-4. Gourson also had an OPS of 1.170 during the week which was an Eastern League best mark.
In the past 28 games he is hitting .375 with eight doubles, four home runs and 15 RBI. Gourson finished the season hitting .284 with five home runs and 20 RBI in 56 games with Altoona after a late June promotion to Double-A from High-A Greensboro.
His steady contributions have helped the Curve to a playoff spot. They will face off against Erie in the best of three Southwest division series. With a bat like Gourson’s in the lineup they could be primed to take down the defending Eastern League champion.
Gourson is not a Pittsburgh Pirates top 30 prospect. Yet with a big postseason performance, might be in the conversation for the list next time.
It’s good to see the final Eastern League player of the week award go to Gourson and a prospect from the Pittsburgh Pirates system. Hopefully the team can win the league championship to go along with the individual awards.
