Gouache FIELD Kit Take 1!

Hi friends! Accidentally dropping a leash while on a hike the other day lead to an impromptu plein air session with one of my new travel palettes.

You see, I had to back to the trails and retrace my steps to find the leash so I figured I might as well take one of my new palettes with me and try it out. I had purchased a Jerry Q Swivel palette and a Leakproof palette with a silicone pop-out cup and lanyard. I wanted to try using water brushes with gouache which I have never done. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to use wet paint or dry paint for this so I will set up both palettes and take the wet one with me.

Here is the place I painted:

I was able to clean the silicone gasket and wipe off any contamination on the colors in about 5 minutes so it will be good to go next time with real brushes! I think the dried-down gouache will work better with water brushes. The squishing down the pans with my finger method while drying has worked keeping the paint from cracking and falling from the palette. Maybe I can use it outside this weekend. Happy crafting!
