Good Luck Chuck. . CHUCK JORDAN

I gotta say I’m selfish when it comes to music. As a music head it’s a redeeming quality if you ask me. When you run across something you’re feeling. You wanna keep it to yourself.. at first.. You wanna be able to say you were up on it first. But then there is some music you wanna broadcast to the world how dope it is. As was the case when I got turned on to Vocalist and songwriter CHUCK JORDAN. A good friend of mine sent me his video for his song “Break Me”, and I instantly dug it!!! “Break Me” was a direct no filters Heartbreak song from a full blown mature man. It had a serious 90s vibe to it. It was simplistic in approach and delivery. And the visual matched it well. Lets say I REALLY dug it. It wasn’t the kind of song that shot over your head with a deep message or over produced or lyrically over written. It was in the pocket. It was a vibe. A Soulful R&B Vibe. Its the kind of song Gerald LeVert or Keith Sweat woulda put out. Its grown man R&B. Not for the Chris Brown or Auto Tune Grooves masquerading as R&B out now. And vocally The brother was not trying to over sing or under sing to get his point across. He kept it perfectly center with a pleading Tenor and well placed falsetto reminiscent of Tank. You could tell he was real about the words that was coming outta his mouth!! And it and as well as the artist, was authentic with it. So I made it a point to reach out to the artist to tell him keep it coming, as well as spread it around to a few heads who I thought would dig it too.

” I originally wanted to be a professional drummer, but a buddy of mine in college asked me to do some vocal work for his project. I still don’t remember how he heard I could sing, but regardless, I said yes. We recorded a song where I did the hook & a bridge, & once we did the song live, I’ve been hooked ever since”.. Speaking on his beginnings as an artist. CHUCK JORDAN from Inkster , MI just west of Detroit, is what many would call a Romantic. A Soulman who go this start of course in the Church with the family and names John P.Kee, Brian McKnight, Nate Dogg & R.Kelly as biggest influences, and later on checks Musiq Soulchild, Lyfe Jennings, Trey Songz & Ne-Yo, and now a day’s Rico Love, Eric Bellinger, Drake & Tank as artists who moved him towards is own music. And given the way the young man handles a song, he learned his lessons well from his influences and inspirations!! “I usually hear Tank or Craig David. I personally think it’s cool, cause it means I remind you of a familiar sound.” says CHUCK. I myself heard the latter a lot in the song “Break Me” and even more so in his EP collection beginning with 2021’s “Defective” and into “Kiss Me” in 2022 and rolling into “Something’s Missing” also in 2022.. Giving him three consecutive EPS that displays his Brand of Soulful Crooning. In actuality he began his run as an artist with 2020’s “Curfew” that featured CHUCK JORDAN in emcee mode. Its not that bad. But Vocalizing as a Singer may be his preference. It allows him to put his Heart out here and display his songwriting chops as well. Which is a strength, You hear a cat who is yes romantic, but also earnest in is performance. The brother is wailing and confessing. You feel his plight for Mrs. Right!!

I cannot overstate the fact that CHUCK JORDAN’s music is like hearing a good dude put it all out there. “As a male, I feel like it’s harder to sing about emotions. Even though you have a long list of women doing the same thing, no one wants to hear the male perspective.” Says the Crooner who also works a 9 – 5 til the music life takes over. “I work in the plant too.. It actually has built my work ethic up.. I use the money and the time toward my music stuff. It sorta helps cause I’m able to fund my own music, but it also hurts cause I work so many hours it’s hard to do shows.” I fully understand this plight. But I also understand the way he uses the time and the money to get to the real dream.. music. He makes the kind of music that your lady would admire and respect. And Old Schooler will ride too. While a lot of R&B has gone the way of blatant sexual innuendo’s. CHUCK, takes a gentleman’s route of using his emotions and keeping it real . “Songs like “Love” by Music Soulchild, “Never Felt This Way” by Brian McKnight, & “I Can’t Make You Love Me” by Tank are all the songs I wish were mine, Those songs changed my life not only as a singer but as a man… they showed it was okay for a man to be vulnerable.” An excellent selection of soul classics if I do say so myself. Songs that speak to, and from the heart. With memorable performances no less!!. Yes Mr. Jordan is an appreciative music head himself. One that knows the power of music and what it can do. ” I honestly don’t know. (But) music has slowly turned into a therapy session for me, even if I can’t write.

Drumming or just listening to music, helps keep me sane.” Mr. Jordan I concur. Music can tame the savage beast . Even if it doesn’t always have a Savage beat. Ballads are CHUCK JORDAN’s main weapon of choice. They offer him the ability to speak his mind and heart from the start. Its a complete pleasure to hear a young man speak on music this way. Without all the braggadocious bravado that Male artists are known for and would pay a kings ransom to hide. But don’t get it twisted, although Mr. Chuck he is a Sensitive R&B Cat, he also can bring it with the bars. He not only started his musical journey as a Drummer, but also as an emcee. Full out Rapping on his first EP. According to the Vocalist, when it comes to his materiel, he has got a little sumn for everyone to get into..” I’d have to say my subject matter, my late 90’s & early 2000’s vibe my music has & fact that I can also rap usually shocks ppl. I want to be respected not only as a vocalist & songwriter but also as a lyricist.” The artist also is proud of his representation for the Big Fellas in R&B. A lane that always seems to win with fans with the Legendary Luther Vandross leading the way , artists like Pink $weats and the aforementioned Rod Wave have made it cool to be a Big Fella, as long as you come from the heart with your message and be capable with your talent. CHUCK JORDAN has more than embraced the vibe. One of his marketing tools is the Teddy Bear image that appears on his EP covers and he uses in his Social media posts. Its a term of endearment that kind of always gets stamped on Big Fellas with heart. So I had to ask him how he felt about it. Big Fellas getting kind of typecast as a certain kind of artist based on their size? “My kids said I remind them of a Teddy Bear. And after watching Teddy Pendergrass’ Unsung, I decided to really go all out with the bear, & try to use the bear to be symbolic with the cover art. So when you see the bear you think about me.” Its always good to that the artist and the music match appropriately. Gives a sense of realness to the overall vibe.. CHUCK JORDAN deserves the light because he does his thing from the place that it counts.. The Heart.. Feels good to watc a brotha grow.. Good Luck Chuck.. – Terry Martin for RnBInTheD.com
