Good Boy (2022)

Director: Viljar Bøe
Starring: Gard Løkke, Katrine Lovise Øpstad Fredriksen, Nicolai Narvesen Lied
Christian – a millionaire heir, meets Sigrid – a young student, on a dating app. They hit it off quickly, but there’s only one problem: Christian lives with Frank, a man who dresses up and constantly acts like a dog.
Christian, a handsome young man, lives alone with his dog, Frank. Oh wait, that’s not right. Christian lives with a MAN who believes he is a dog. Not only does he dress in a dog costume, but he constantly acts like a dog. Completely nuts if you ask me!
Christian meets Sigrid via a dating app and they start seeing each other. All goes well until she sees Frank, the ‘dog’. Despite being alarmed by this, she continues to see Christian, who turns out to be a multimillionaire. Sigrid starts fantasizing about having sex with Frank, and so Christian, Sigrid and Frank go away to his cabin for the weekend.
Soon after arriving at the cabin, though, the movie shifts gears and the romance makes way for a sinister and disturbing atmosphere. Sigrid realizes the danger when Frank suddenly pleas for help.
‘Good Boy’ has a weird premise and this ultimately turns out to be a very weird movie. The film keeps the audience guessing and I enjoyed this mystery element, but I was hoping for some sort of rational explanation to the events. Unfortunately, there is no conclusion. On the contrary, by the time the film ends it leaves the viewer with more questions than answers. I was hoping for the movie to somehow make sense, but no, it doesn’t…unless there’s something I’m missing… This was just weird.
In Norwegian.
Would I watch it again? No.
