Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)

Director: Dominic Sena

Starring: Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Giovanni Ribisi

A retired master car thief must come back to the industry and steal fifty cars with his crew in one night to save his brother’s life.

Before ‘The Fast and the Furious’, there was ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’, featuring high speed car chases and impressive cars. While ‘The Fast and the Furious’ is far more stylish and more believable, ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ delivers enough thrills and excitement to bring us a thoroughly entertaining action movie. Car enthusiasts will love the cars! Regarding the cars, they sure did their homework!

In line with the movie’s title, the film is fast-paced with action almost from beginning to end. With only four days to steal fifty specific cars, the suspense is elevated thanks to this deadline. The photography is very good – especially during the final act. Speaking of which, the final act delivers loads of incredible action sequences. If you’re into cars and action, this should satisfy the palate.

Despite negative reviews from critics, the film was a major success. ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ earned $237 million on a $90 million budget – once again proving the critics wrong. ‘Gone in 60 Seconds’ also received several award nominations.

Would I watch it again? Yes.
