Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed (2004)

Director: Brett Sullivan
Starring: Emily Perkins, Brendan Fletcher, Katharine Isabelle, Eric Johnson
Ginger’s sister Brigitte, now a werewolf herself, must try to find a cure for her blood lust before the next full moon while hiding out in a rehab clinic from a relentless werewolf.
With the ending of ‘Ginger Snaps’ I was curious to see how the saga would continue. As it turns out, it is now Brigitte’s story being told. And honestly, there was no need for this sequel.
With Brigitte having infected herself with Ginger’s blood in ‘Ginger Snaps’, she now faces the slow and painful transformation Ginger had to endure. Believing her to be a drug addict, Brigitte is being admitted to a rehabilitation facility, where most of the film takes place.
There’s no real antagonist here, except maybe Brigitte herself, and a werewolf that appears out of nowhere without back story or any idea who it is. Alas, this is a werewolf movie after all, so I suppose they needed a werewolf – never mind where it came from. Another possible antagonist was Tyler (Eric Johnson), but although he was taking advantage of the patients, he was always willing to help Brigitte, so I actually rooted for him.
And then there’s a girl names Ghost, who allows for a very confusing ending. This young girl is all over the place and was a seemingly innocent character, but towards the end there were some reveals that made me question this, and then the film also ended on a very confusing note with her. I still have no idea who she actually is…
‘Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed’ is pretty much a rehash of what we’ve seen in ‘Ginger Snaps’ – only this time it is Brigitte’s ordeal, and Ginger is merely in her thoughts and memories. This film was not quite as interesting and I wonder whether I’m going to remember it. Again, don’t expect any werewolf attack scenes – not until the final act, at least.
‘Ginger Snaps: The Beginning’ was by far the best film in the series.
Would I watch it again? No.
