Name: Sonny Varrati

Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

High School: Central Catholic High School

Sport: Lacrosse

High School Accolades: First-Team All-Section selection

Club Lacrosse: True Lacrosse Pittsburgh. “True Lacrosse meant a chance to expand my lacrosse IQ to prepare for the next level. The organization helped me to grasp an understanding of the sport and push me to be the best I can be.”

College: Heidelberg University. The institution is located in Tiffin, Ohio and is home to around 1,300 students. Heidelberg has a distinct mascot known as the Student Prince. The institution competes at the NCAA Division III level and are members of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC).

Why He Chose Heidelberg: “I chose Heidelberg because of the warm and welcoming community of the campus and the great welcoming done by the coaches and players when meeting them. I’ve grown very close with the team and wish to help build the team to be a top competitor in the OAC.”

College Accolades: Started in all 17 of the Fighting Prince’s games as a defender in the 2024 season.

Majors and Future Plans: Business and exercise science with plans to own a gym or become a strength and conditioning coach at the college or professional level.

Greek Life: Became a brother of ΝΣΑ or Nu Sigma Alpha this past school year. He joined the fraternity with several of his fellow lacrosse teammates.

What Central Catholic Means to Him: “It’s the place where I met some of my greatest mentors and friends. Central is a great place for building connections and being part of a great brotherhood and community of people that will help you a lot in the future. The lacrosse program was amazing when I was a part of it. We rebuilt it to be one of the most competitive teams in the WPIAL and the team has shown signs of continued success. I wouldn’t be competing at college level if it wasn’t for them. The lacrosse program set me up with the skills needed for the next level. Even outside of lacrosse, there are great people who support all the young men with whatever the next step in their lives is.”

His Support System: His parents Danielle and Joe Varrati; his high school coaches Coach Abby, Coach Wiz, Coach Brent, Coach Nate, and Coach Colin; and his friends and teammates
