The Cougars compete in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and are members of the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) in men’s lacrosse. However, during Hosler’s playing career, the program played in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC).
Why He Chose Columbia College: “It was the perfect fit for me as far as what I was looking for in a college. We were a first year program my freshman year (2018), so it was awesome to be able to start a program from the ground up and see how far we could take it. My head coach at Columbia College, lan Wolfe, is a Chartiers Valley graduate and was Chartiers Valley’s varsity lacrosse coach in 2016. After playing them my junior year, along with one of my best friends, Adam Debski, who went to Columbia with me, Coach Wolfe reached out to us looking to have us visit. Wolfe, being from Pittsburgh, was the main reason we were able to have so many WPIAL guys move out there to play together. It truly is the best place on Earth out there. Once you step foot in the town of Columbia, you fall in love. The small school atmosphere and SEC college football directly across the street.Missouri (Mizzou) is also located in Columbia.”
College Accolades: In his college career, Hosler made 27 starts and went 21-6 in net. He made 215 career saves and is the all-time wins leader for the Cougars. In 2021, he was awarded the KCAC Men’s Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete award, the KCAC Defensive Player of the Year award, was a first team All-КСАС, and was honored as a second-team All-American selection.
Degree Earned and Business Ventures: Hosler earned a degree in biology from Columbia College and once had plans to go to dental school and become an orthodontist. However, he has been entrepreneurial from a young age and each of his parents are also small business owners. He’s successfully started a landscaping business, which he owned and operated during high school and college. He’s also the owner of Drifters Lacrosse Club; and organization for high school boys’. His day job is as an administrative professional at Newbauer Maniet Financial Group. However, he’s working towards becoming a fully licensed financial advisor in the near future.
Favorite Lacrosse Memories: “There are a few that immediately come to mind. The first would be our programs first ever game at Columbia College. I was lucky enough to win the starting spot at goalie and we beat Lindenwood-Belleville 14-1. It was so awesome because our team had 17 freshmen and only one upperclassman. To come out of the gate like that was awesome to be a part of. Another top memory is winning the KCAC title in 2021, my senior season. We had 12 of the original 17 freshmen that started to program stay through senior year. To end on top with those guys that we created a brotherhood with is something very special to me. Our senior season in 2021 we went 14-1, with our only loss being in the national quarterfinals.”
Club Lacrosse Organization: Hosler is the owner and founder of Drifters Lacrosse Club, an organization he founded last year. “Giving back was my goal for starting this club. I can specifically look back at the coaches in my life that helped me more than they know, and I truly want to be that for this next generation of lacrosse athletes. My reasoning behind creating my own program, rather than joining one of the already well established organizations in the area, is I believe the club lacrosse landscape has become too much about the money rather than the players. Our organization has and will always put the players first before anything. Our main goal is to have every single kid who puts on a Drifters jersey receive a scholarship to play the sport they love at the next level. Our other main goal as an organization is to put Pittsburgh lacrosse on the map. For as long as I have been around the game, everyone always talks about Philadelphia having the superior lacrosse athletes in Pennsylvania. Our goal is to build Pittsburgh into the lacrosse powerhouse it has the potential to be, brick by brick.”
What Western Pennsylvania Means to Him: “It’s home. There is just something about the landscape and people here that resonate with me. After spending five years in Missouri, I knew I needed to come back to be closer with my family. I told myself I never wanted to be the uncle/son that only showed up for birthdays and holidays. That was a driving force for me to move back home.”
His Support System: “I have so many people to be thankful for in regard to this. Starting off is my father, Chuck Hosler. From all the hours he took to spend time with me in the backyard, not only with lacrosse, but with playing basketball and baseball as well. He always taught me that knowing the game was just as important as playing the game, and I think that is a main reason as to why I love coaching so much. He always made sure I knew why things were happening, what I needed to do, and why I needed to do them. He showed me certain things, rather than just telling me to do them. I also have to thank my mother, Patty Hosler, for taking time out of her busy schedule to always drive me to any practices and games I had growing up. Both of my parents are small business owners, so the grinding mindset was instilled in me as a young kid. I am forever grateful for that. I would not have been as successful at lacrosse if it was not for them and the attributes they passed on to me.”
