Name: Andrew Barrett

Hometown: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

High School: Baldwin High School

What Baldwin and His High School Running Programs Mean: “The Baldwin cross country and track and field programs mean a ton to me. Coach Rich Wright and Coach Ed Helbig have spent their lives building one of the best programs in the state. They are some of the best coaches around. They also have done so much for the PIAA and WPIAL and have aided them in running smoothly over the years.”

Sports: Cross Country, Indoor Track and Field, and Outdoor Track and Field

College: Campbell University. Campbell is a private, Christian university located in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Fighting Camels compete at the NCAA Division I level in athletics and are members of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field. The institution is home to just over 5,600 stridents.

Why He Chose Campbell: “The main thing that made me choose Campbell was distance coach, Evan Darm. He is a super ambitious and motivational guy and shows true care and belief in his athletes. Additionally, the great reputation in track and field was important to me. Finally, I chose Campbell because of their trust and wealth program. It is the only trust specific program in the country.”

Athletic Accolades: WPIAL 4×400 relay medalist with an eighth place finish, Butler Invitational Elite Mile seventh place finish, and a McKinney Elite Mile (Baldwin Invitational) twelfth place finish.

Intended Major and Future Plans: “Trust and Wealth Management, a major that only exists at Campbell across the country. It includes extensive work in all fields in the banking and finance industries. Experience in portfolio management and being a trust officer is acquired through the program. Essentially, it’s preparing me to become something in the realm of a fiduciary.”

Favorite Running Memories: “Two of my favorite memories are the Baldwin Invitational my senior year and the CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in New York City. My last Baldwin Invitational was amazing. Some of my best friends and I all put up our best performances, which earned our team first place out of about 80 teams. All kf my family and friends were there to experience it with me. It was my favorite high school track memory by far. The CAA Indoor Track and Field Championships were a super cool experience going to New York City with my friends on my team. I’ve never been there before, so it was cool exploring parts of a cool city. I also had the pleasure of competing at the infamous Armory track  in the Bronx on my trip.”

A Testament About His Running Mentor: “Coach Rich Wright really helped re-spark the flame in me to pursue a collegiate career. Over my sophomore and junior years, I started caring less about running. In the middle of my senior cross country season, he helped me realize that I have potential that I will regret wasting. After that, I had my best seasons yet in indoor and outdoor track and field. I became ranked in the WPIAL for my distance events.”
