“Call Her By Her Name, Enheduanna” is a homage to one of history’s earliest known authors and poets. Enheduanna was a Sumerian high priestess, poet, and daughter of King Sargon of Akkad, who lived around 2300 BCE. The Sumerian priestess is celebrated as the first recorded author to sign her works, making her a key figure in the history of literature and women’s contributions to art and culture.

Enheduanna served as the high priestess of the moon god Nanna (Sin) in the ancient city of Ur. She played a significant role in unifying the religious practices of Akkadian and Sumerian cultures under the reign of her father, Sargon. Enheduanna’s works are among the earliest examples of written poetry, blending personal devotion with sophisticated literary techniques. Her most famous works include “The Exaltation of Inanna” and “The Sumerian Temple Hymns.”

Ganavya’s homage to Enheduanna draws on themes of reclaiming and honoring forgotten histories, particularly those of women erased or overlooked in dominant narratives. The song likely intertwines a modern musical interpretation with an acknowledgment of Enheduanna’s historical and cultural legacy. By invoking Enheduanna, Ganavya sheds light on a monumental figure in human history, celebrating her contributions and ensuring her name is remembered.
