Game of Inches
It’s the final set. We won the first 4 points. We then went behind 12-9. We levelled it 12-12. It’s the first to 15. Us to serve. The opposition called a time-out. I did my best to give a rallying call. It’s now we have to give it our all. We lost 1 point. 13-12. We lost the next point. It’s match point to the opposition. I have no more time-outs. We lost the final point and consequently the match 15-12. Heartbreaking.
I was disappointed to lose yet another 5 setter. However, I get this overwhelming feeling that, “It’s a game of inches.” As with the youtube clip, in any given Sunday, it could have been us that won the last 3 points. Chance and luck – love it or hate it, it’s what sport is about.
Knowing my personality, I generally don’t think about it long because it doesn’t help me. These are influences outside my control so I always look to what actions we can take and learn from to improve our next performance. Back to compiling those volleyball statistics for me and trying to figure out what happened.
