Director: Steve Miner

Starring: Dana Kimmell, Tracie Savage, Richard Brooker

Having revived from his wounds, Jason Voorhees takes refuge at a cabin near Crystal Lake. As a group of co-eds arrive for their vacation, Jason continues his killing spree.

The fact that these films are box office hits, is worrying, to say the least. Why do people enjoy watching teenagers senselessly being butchered?

Steve Miner is back in the director’s chair. ‘Friday the 13th Part 3’ pretty much offers the same we’ve seen in the previous films. Only here, Jason starts wearing the hockey mask that made this villain so recognizable. (In the first film, Jason’s mom was the killer, in the second Jason wore a sack over his head). Jason actually takes the mask from one of his victims, a “jerk” named Shelly (played by Larry Zerner). We’re at a camp again and there’s plenty of horny teens.

This movie is loaded with way too many false scares, and bland characters. They are here simply for the kill. There is no substance whatsoever. There’s therefore very little to say about this movie; it’s just slicing and dicing. And come to think of it, they don’t even mention Friday the 13th in these movies. We just assume it to be Friday the 13th.

Despite this film offering nothing new and laded with flaws, I did find it better than ‘Friday the 13th Part 2’, which was just terrible.

‘Friday the 13th Part 3’ earned $36.6 million on a $2.3 million budget.

Would I watch it again? I don’t think so.
