Friday, October 27 Match Day

Update: My math was wrong on Pac Lu clinching with a win. Their magic number is two – any win by Pac Lu or loss by Whitworth reduces the number. I guess they could clinch if they win and Whitworth loses tonight so my math was wrong but I was still technically right.

Louisiana College is up 2-0 in sets. They are looking for their first win in DIII. And they get it! Congratulations!

Oxy up 2-1 on La Verne. Pomona-Pitzer up on Chapman. Maybe Oxy does have a chance…And Oxy takes down La Verne. Oh boy. With Cal Lu’s win tonight, Oxy is eliminated from SCIAC tourney contention.

Pac Lu is going to need another night and maybe one more after that to clinch as they lose to Pacific tonight.

Both La Verne and Whittier lost but just needed Chapman to follow suit. Wasn’t to be as Pomona-Pitzer played well but Chapman takes it in 5-sets. That means La Verne, Whittier and Cal Lu are all at 10-5. Chapman is at 9-6. Since Cal Lu faces CMS tomorrow it probably means the winner of La Verne / Whittier will be the #2 seed. Chapman has a tough Oxy team tomorrow so no guarantee there. The weird scenario where Chapman wins and Whittier loses (regardless of Cal Lu) tomorrow is still in play and would mean Whittier would be out of the SCIAC tournament.

Random Thoughts: Does Pac Lu clinch tonight? Can Chapman stay alive or does Pomona play the spoiler? For that matter, can Oxy play the spoiler? They are still in it mathematically but need the seas to part. Can UTD take down Trinity? Some good matches that will answer some questions.
