Updates: Adding a couple of links to the Top 25 matches that were interesting.

Something very cool that I just noticed. Hope alum Emily Hayes who now coaches at Bates will take on her school tomorrow at Tufts. They may have a chance but there would be no way she could beat Calvin. 😉

In that vein, Austin College Ed Garza will take his team to play his alma mater (Ouachita Baptist) tomorrow, too. (Note, I literally know only where two coaches have graduated. Well, that’s not entirely true now that I think of it. The list is short, that is for sure and, frankly, knowledge that I don’t need.)

Schreiner is up 2-0 on TLU. TLU may be thinking about their match with Colorado College too soon. Whoops! Or the Live Stats is backwards! Let me check the video. Yup, TLU is up 2-0.

TLU won that match 3-1.

Trinity with two pretty easy set wins over Southwestern but SU leads late in set three.

CC wasn’t looking ahead as they sweep St Thomas.

Trinity lead 18-17 in the third set before Southwestern rattled off eight straight points for the set win.

Whitewater sweeps MIT but all three sets were close and went extras. 30-27-30.

Aaahhhh!!! SU played Trinity even in set four. A couple of breaks and good plays and Trinity wins 26-24. A lost opportunity for Southwestern but Trinity showed why they are a top team in the nation.

It looks like I’m not going to make the trip out to UTD tonight. Time got away from me between volleyball and QPR (won again). Plus I am really hungry.

Back from dinner. TLU is up on Colorado College 2-1. I may regret missing the UTD match as ETBU won the first set 28-26. McMurry up 2-0 on Concordia. UMHB is up 1-0 but losing the second set to HSU.

TLU takes down CC away, which is always difficult.

UTD and McMurry get wins. UMHB and HSU are in a fifth set.

UMHB wins the set and the match. There were down a bit and came back in the fifth.

More bus problems! This time for Austin College who’s bus did a no-show this morning. They scrambled and rented vans only to have one with a fuel leak. The entire team finally made it to the court 20 minutes before they were supposed to start. They ended up getting the sweep.

31-29 in the third set for Trinity and they get the sweep over St Thomas.

Late matches are underway. Oxy took the first set from La Verne. Pacific took the first set from Whitworth.

Cal Lu sweeps Pomona-Pitzer. Kind of surprising they go by the Sagehens in three.

Not really sure how I missed the Willamette/Lewis & Clark match. Willamette gets the sweep.

Late matches are done. No 5-setters. PLU over George Fox is a bit surprising but those two teams are pretty close.

Random Thoughts: Shoutout to Colorado College for having all of the links to their pod matches on their schedule. They will be hosting 6 SCAC schools in their pod this weekend. I had thought about going out there this weekend. First with the (hot) wife and then by myself. Flights just didn’t work out. But some great matches to watch. I really hope I can go out there for the SCAC Tournament in November.

Speaking of that pod, big match for Southwestern who will get Trinity today. If they have any hope of getting an at-large, they need to get a signature win and this would be one of the few chances left to get one.

St Thomas/Colorado College could be a good one. St Thomas is pretty good although they’ve lost some tough ones lately.

TLU/CC is another good one and probably a tougher match for CC.

HSU/UMHB is a match HSU really needs as they have faltered of late.

ETBU/UTD is a huge opportunity for ETBU to close the gap to the conference leaders. It’s also a chance for UTD to run away and hide with the title. I actually might be able to make this one if I want to fight some traffic. Trivia – Did you know UT-Dallas is the only Region X volleyball team that charges for attending their matches? (Not 100% on this but I think it’s right. UT-Tyler charged when they were DIII but they are now DII.)

Trinity and Southwestern can’t sleep on their late opponents. This is a good trap game for both if they don’t watch out.

GFU/PLU should be a good one. PLU at home will be tough and they just dropped that 5-setter to UPS.

CLU/Pomona pits two teams that should make the SCIAC Tournament. Pomona will want to hold home court in this one.

CMS and Caltech is coming after the cancelled match by Caltech at Cal Lu. I’m now hearing that the reason was a mix of conflicts and illness with the players. I thought this match might not happen but it looks like it will go on as planned.
